Itinerary Details
Day 1: Windhoek to Erindi Private Game Reserve/Okonjati Game Reserve - 177km (110miles) - ±2H30min
Our journey this morning takes us north of Windhoek to the Erindi Private Game Reserve (alternatively Okonjati Game Reserve if Erindi is unavailable), one of Africa’s largest privately owned game reserves.
This is a relatively short drive, however we plan to arrive in the early afternoon hours to enjoy a wonderful lunch upon arrival, after which we will give our guests some time to relax waterhole-side at the lodge.
A late afternoon optional game drive is on the cards, alternatively our guest can enjoy a relaxed afternoon at the lodge. The game drives here are conducted in open-aired/safari vehicles. Guests will be able to see elephant, black and white rhino, zebra, hippo and many antelopes. Cheetah, leopard and lion are at home in the wildlife sanctuary.
Day 2: Erindi Private Game Reserve/Okonjati Game Reserve
Today is an early morning wake up call, firstly for a light breakfast and thereafter a morning game drive which will last for roughly three hours.
This will give you another opportunity to catch a glimpse of what you might have missed on the previous game drive(s). Erindi Private Game Reserve and Okojati game Reserve both house a large population of wildlife, including hippopotamus, Black Wildebeests and many more which are not found in the famous Etosha National Park, and the other endangered species which are not a common sighting in some of the big wildlife parks too.
It’s possible to see some lion prides, elephants, antelopes and other carnivores. Since 1998, careful management of the reserve has ensured the recovery of the ecological balance between vegetation, herbivores, and predators, so that the numbers and diversity of the species here lead to sustainable land utilization and socio-economic benefits for all in the area.
Another fabulous dinner is something to look forward to this evening!
Day 3: Erindi Game Reserve/Okonjati Game Reserve to Swakopmund - 279km (173miles) - ±3H25min
Today we continue our journey with a scenic drive to the cosy town of Swakopmund on the mighty Atlantic Ocean. On this drive, we traverse the famous Spitzkoppe area, as well as the Erongo mountain ranges.
On 4 of August 1892 the crew of gunboat called ”Hyena” erected two beacons to mark the landing site which symbolized the laying of the foundation stone of Swakopmund.
We will arrive in time for a little tour around the town to acquaint ourselves with, and book a few activities that you might want to enjoy, i.e. quad-biking (ATV’s), skydiving, sandboarding, paragliding, scenic flights and much more, after which we can enjoy a fine seafood dinner overlooking the ocean.
Day 4: Swakopmund
This coastal town is known for its variety of activities that it offers to travellers, and we have taken the liberty in arranging a dolphin cruise for you this morning on the catamaran in the town of Walvis Bay. On this educational dolphin and seal cruises, guests get front row seats to watch seals being boisterous and stand a good chance to be introduced to the eccentric-looking great white pelican and that is only the beginning.
The guests will have an excellent chance of seeing at least one of the more common members of the Marine Big 5 as we are often accosted by Bottlenose, Heaviside and Dusky dolphins who look to satisfy their curiosity..
The afternoon is a relaxed one, where our guests can do some curio shopping or just wonder the lively markets of this unique city.
We have our final dinner at the coast this evening.
Day 5: Swakopmund to Sossusvlei - 376km (234miles) - ±4H50min
We start our journey with a drive south into the Namib Naukluft Park, one of the most scenic landscapes in Namibia. In 1966 “Game Reserve No. 3” was de-proclaimed, and the Namib Desert Park was established in its stead.
The Namib Desert Park included a small area north of the Swakop River where the Welwitschia grow, as well as the Moon Landscape east of Swakopmund. In 1979 two more large areas were added. The Naukluft Mountain Zebra Park was included such that the Naukluft Mountains now formed part of the protected area. It previously comprised 14 commercial farms that were bought by government to protect the Hartmann mountain zebra.
On route to the Sesriem area, which is the gateway to the mighty dunes of Sossusvlei, we will pass Kuiseb and Gaub mountain passes, where will also have brief stops to take more of Namibia’s beauty in.
Solitaire is a great stopover for a lunchtime snack and houses one of the most famous bakeries in the country, which is situated in the heart of the Namib Desert. We will arrive in the late afternoon at our lodge, and so you will have a chance to recover from the long drive before we enjoy a lovely dinner in the Namib Desert.
Day 6: Sossusvlei and Deadvlei
This morning we will head into the Sosusvlei National Park, as we depart quite early and drive into this great sand sea this morning. We embark on a short journey in discovering the famous Deadvlei and Sossusvlei areas, but before we get there, a short stop at dune 45 is a must.
We will walk amongst the great dunes and photograph this captivating landscape. We may also decide to climb one of the World’s highest climbable dunes, the ‘Big Daddy’. In the afternoon when the temperatures have subsided, we will visit the Sesriem canyon, another amazing geological feature in the area before our wonderful buffet dinner.
Day 7: Sossusvlei to Windhoek - 332km (206miles) - ±4H20min
Today we have reached the end of our journey and head back to the capital city Windhoek via a few small settlements in the southern part, and the town of Rehoboth.
We’ll stop in Klein-Aub to stretch our legs, and for a unique coffee tasting experience around noon, before transiting to Windhoek, as we hope for a late afternoon arrival.
