Itinerary Details
Day 1: Arusha
This is the moment you’ve been waiting for: your Tanzanian safari starts here. You have so much to look forward to and we’ll get your trip underway as soon as we give you an introduction to our team and explain what lies ahead.
Arusha is a fun city to explore, a fascinating urban complement to the thrills on offer elsewhere in northern Tanzania’s safari parks. Here you’ll get to experience lively streets, tasty local food, and busy markets and museums. More than anything else, it’s a window into life in a provincial Tanzanian city.
Day 2: Arusha
Arusha National Park is near Mount Meru, with diverse landscapes, and offers game viewing, horse riding, and organized walks.
Arusha serves as the capital of the Arusha Region and is a multicultural center with a population that includes indigenous Tanzanian, Arab, and Indian communities, along with a small European and American minority. We’ve booked a city tour for you today.
Arusha is also known as the “Geneva of Africa” for hosting the East African Community and for being home to the African Court of Human and People’s Rights.
Day 3: Arusha to Northern Serengeti National Park- (By flight)
This morning, you’ll fly into Kogatende Airstrip as your safari experience officially starts.
In the Northern Serengeti, you’ll see wildlife in a beautiful setting and with not many other travellers around. There is wildlife here all throughout the year, but they’re everywhere when the migration is passing through. The scenery in this part of the park is also superb with plenty of Serengeti savannah grasslands between the rocky hills and Mara River.
This area is generally known for its eye-catching landscape of rolling hills and acacia woodlands, offering a more private wildlife experience with less tourists. It is especially popular from July to October for the Great Wildebeest Migration river crossings at the Mara River.
Day 4: Northern Serengeti National Park
Get up before the sun and go on an early morning game drive in Northern Serengeti National Park! It’s when animals are active and the light is at its most beautiful. You’ll see the best of Northern Serengeti National Park as you head out on a guided game drive. It really is a terrific way to feel a part of Africa with the wind in your hair as we drive you around to explore the African bush in search of wildlife.
You can also opt to take to the sky with us on a balloon safari (optional) here in Northern Serengeti National Park. It will give you an entirely different perspective on the world down below. See how many animals you can spot.
The northern Serengeti is unspoiled, beautiful and quiet in comparison to the southern Serengeti plains. The area stretches from the Lobo Hills southwards to Seronera and is typified by green rolling hills, which is a pleasant diversion from the much flatter southern plains.
As the area is much denser in terms of vegetation, wildlife viewing is slightly more challenging and does not match up to the plains south of Seronera. However, as the northern Serengeti is much quieter in terms of tourist traffic, as it means that you may go on a game drive without seeing other vehicles.
Day 5: Northern Serengeti National Park to Central Serengeti National Park - ±3H30min
Keep an eye out for wildlife this morning as our transfer to the next part of your safari doubles as a game drive.
Discover just why so many safari visitors fall in love with the Serengeti. Keep an eye out for big cats, elephants, and almost every kind of safari wildlife you can imagine. You can see giraffe, impala, zebra, wildebeest, buffalo, hundreds of species of birds, and that may all just be before breakfast. You’ll never forget watching these animals interact, whether you see a hunt, a vast herd or a mother protecting her cub or calf.
The Serengeti’s scenery is also unforgettable – observe Africa’s iconic acacia trees, the park’s golden grasslands and great piles of boulders known as kopjes.
Day 6: Central Serengeti National Park
You’ll experience classic safari scenery with acacia trees and savannah grasslands, as well as plenty of wildlife, when you visit the Central Serengeti.
The area southeast of Seronera becomes the center of wildlife viewing during the December – April rain season as vast herds of wildebeest congregate here in this period. Seronera is also known as predator capital of the world, as sightings of leopard, cheetah and lion are (almost) guaranteed. The peak of wildlife and visitor activity is between March and May, the period in which the wildebeest and their entourage are found in the area. It also is a pleasant area to be as it offers a variety of different habitats and water is available year-round.
You’ll get to know Serengeti National Park in the best possible way on a guided game drive; led by an expert guide, you’ll drive out across the park’s famous savannahs in search of the incredible wildlife (big cats, elephants and more) that calls the park home.
Day 7: Serengeti National Park to Zanzibar Island - (By flight)
Get ready this morning in Serengeti National Park for all the excitement of an early morning guided game drive. No matter how many of these you do, you’ll never lose that sense of anticipation for what animals you might see next. The upsides, abundant wildlife, great accessibility and many facilities, come with a price. It is important to realize that parts of this area experience very high visitor traffic. The area may attract a clustering of safari vehicles, especially when it concerns big cat sightings.
At noon, you’ll be transferred to the airstrip, and it’ll be time you’ll fly into Zanzibar Airport, the island’s main gateway. The airport is conveniently close to Stone Town, on the island’s west side.
Explore Zanzibar Island’s white-sand beaches, UNESCO Stone Town, spice tours and vibrant culture.
Day 8: Zanzibar Island
Stone Town, a World Heritage Site, boasts a labyrinth of winding alleys, bustling marketplaces, beautifully carved wooden doors, breathtaking mosques and grand Arab residences. Another must-see attraction on Zanzibar includes the Jozani Forest Reserve – home to the rare Kirk’s red colobus monkey and Aders’ duiker. Off the north-eastern coast of Zanzibar is Mnemba Island – an idyllic private island featuring luxurious accommodation, spectacular scenery and rich marine diversity.
The Stone Town of Zanzibar is a fine example of the Swahili coastal trading towns of East Africa. It retains its urban fabric and townscape virtually intact and contains many fine buildings that reflect its culture, which has brought together and homogenized disparate elements of the cultures of Africa, the Arab region, India, and Europe over more than a millennium.
Day 9: Zanzibar Island
This morning, you can discover the world that lies beneath the ocean’s surface when we take you snorkeling (optional).
Zanzibar is an island steeped in culture and history – a destination which brought adventurers, seafarers and traders from far and wide. The Zanzibar archipelago is set in the Indian Ocean and made up of the larger islands of Pemba and Unguja (also called Zanzibar Island). Zanzibar is also known as the ‘Spice Island’ due to the delicious variety of spices grown on the island’s many plantations.
Day 10: Zanzibar to Arusha - (By flight)
You’ve come to the end of your safari, and we’ll get you to the airport on time with our airport transfer.
You’ve now experienced Tanzania, an award-winning travel destination and home world-class wildlife, breathtaking landscapes, and unforgettable cultural experiences.
