Itinerary Details

Day 1: Windhoek to Sossusvlei area - 330km (205miles) - ±4H35min

We start our trip between 08:30 and 09:00 south-west to the iconic Namib Desert, known to be the world’s oldest desert and an area with one of the most picturesque landscapes in Namibia. We traverse the scenic mountain ranges of Auas and Khomas Hochland on our journey into the desert, and head down from Namibia’s central plateau. We will briefly stop at the breathtaking Spreetshoogte peak pass on route to our destination of Sesriem.

Coming out of the mountains, we reach the vast open plains open plains until we reach the tiny town of Solitaire for tea and some dessert. Here, we can visit the famous McGregor’s bakery for something sweet.

We plan to arrive at our lodge in the late afternoon to unwind and relax by the poolside, before a proper introduction to this area by your guide as you watch the beautiful sunset before dinner. We will retire to bed early this evening in order to prepare for a pre-dawn start the following day.

We will enjoy a lovely but early breakfast, before heading out to the famous sand dunes of Sossusvlei, famed for both their size and age.

We drive out to our destinations, areas known as Sossusvlei and Deadvlei, which is a white dry clay pan, and here our cameras will naturally take center stage as this landscape is one of the most photographed spaces in Namibia. The views of the different dune formations are quite spectacular coupled with the intriguing camel thorn trees, the Salsola and other desert flora.

After the early morning excursions in the dunes, we will head to the Sesriem canyon for yet another interesting geology tutorial, before making our way back to the lodge. A long day will come to an end with another lovely dinner, as we enjoy our final night in the desert.

We have come to the end of our journey today and take to road back to Windhoek after breakfast. Our guests do have the option of conducting a hot air ballooning activity (at their own expense) this morning before we head back to Windhoek.

Our drive takes us back to the central plateau of Namibia, and an increase in the height above sea level. Driving through the stunning Namib Naukluft mountains, we briefly stop at the village of Klein-Aub in the Rehoboth constituency for an exceptional coffee tasting experience. We will transit via the town of Rehoboth and take a brief break there before finally arriving in Windhoek in the late afternoon.
