Itinerary Details

Day 1: Windhoek to Sesriem - 330km (205miles) ±4H35min

You should consider departing between 08:30 and 09:00 from your accommodation in Windhoek this morning, to enjoy a relaxed and scenic drive to the Sesriem area.

The town of Rehoboth is the starting point for the spectacular road trip to the Naukluft Mountains Scenic Route. You will travel via the Namib Naukluft Mountains, known for their interesting and ancient geological history and you can take the road trip at your own pace, stopping at the various attractions that are sure to make your journey memorable.

Transitioning from the Namibian central plateau, you’ll reach the vast beautiful open plains before your final stop in the small settlement of Solitaire. Here the travelers will have a chance to stretch their legs and enjoy sweet and savoury nutriments at McGregors Bakery.

You’ll hit the road for your final stretch from Solitaire to your lodge.

An early start is required today to catch the soft light of the sunrise over the divine Namib Naukluft Mountains towards the east.

Enjoy the natural beauty of the area, and don’t miss out on the unique attractions and experiences that await you. Your first stop can be the famous Dune 45 which you will have the option of climbing, as the view of this remarkable landscape is even more mesmerizing from the dune summits.

You can spend most of your time around the Deadvlei area, famous for and characterized by the dark, dead camel thorn trees contrasted against the white pan floor.

You can head back to your lodge for some lunch after a short excursion to the Sesriem Canyon as the temperatures cool down.

You should depart from Sesriem area fairly early this morning, as you do have a lengthy drive to Swakopmund. On your way to Swakopmund, you can briefly stop at the Tropic of Capricorn for some memorable photographs and continue onto the two geologically unique mountain passes, the Gaub and Kuiseb Mountain passes.

Upon arrival in Swakopmund, you will have some time to explore the monuments of this historical city, and perhaps visit the Swakopmund Museum by enjoying a short walk to familiarize yourself with the city.

In the late afternoon you can relax at the beach, and can then head out to discover an assortment of cuisines which Swakopmund has to offer when for a seaside dinner.

We’ve booked a Dolphin Cruise on the catamaran for you this morning after an early breakfast. You will be collected and head out to Walvis Bay this morning for your Dolphin tour, where you will be able to see and learn about the dolphins, Cape fur seals, the Namibian oyster farming industry and marine life of the Namibian Atlantic Ocean.

This afternoon you can explore the sights and sounds of the city and have a chance to do some shopping at one or more of the curio shops here; but this also will be a great opportunity for you to visit the craft market and perhaps pick up some souvenirs for family and friends back home.

Other optional activities on offer here in Swakopmund and the desert include quad-biking in the dunes, sandboarding, paragliding, camel riding or skydiving which might not be for the faint-hearted.

You do not need to start for Windhoek until the later hours of the morning, so can first visit the local craft market, giving you an opportunity to grab a special gift to spoil your family and friends when you go back home.

We recommend that you be back in Windhoek in the late afternoon, before sunset in order to avoid night driving.
