Itinerary Details

Day 1: Windhoek to Etosha National Park – 433km (269miles) - ±4H25min

You can start your journey between 08:00 and 08:30, as your drive takes you to the northern part of Namibia.  A relatively long drive this morning to the Etosha National Park will see you passing through farmland and possible short stops in towns of Okahandja, Otjiwarongo and Outjo along the way; as you should aim to arrive in the Etosha National Park shortly after noon.

This will give you time to have the option to depart for your first afternoon game drive in the Etosha National Park with the NWR Game/Safari viewing vehicle, or in your own vehicle. Self-driving in Etosha is easy to do and it’s a wonderful experience. Most roads are relatively straightforward and easy to drive on, but some can become rutted, making journeys a bit slower (and a lot bouncier). When navigating your way through this park, make sure that you adhere to the rules and regulations of the area at all times, and also maintain a prescribed.

Today is another opportunity to familiarize yourself with the routes around the southwestern and eastern end of the Etosha National park, as you can make your way from the Okaukuejo area all the way to the area around Halali and back with your vehicle.

Game viewing is not about flying along and potentially missing incredible things. Take your time and travel at something closer to 40km/h (25mph), and you will find it much easier to spot game. You can visit the various waterholes to see the animals and vegetation of this great park, and more of what it has in store for you as you should set off as early as you can on your game drive.

You are welcome to utilize the bar and pool facilities in Halali before you continue your afternoon game drive. You should return back to your accommodation, the Okaukuejo Camp before sunset.

You would need to depart very early this morning, as your journey continues with a scenic drive to the cosy town of Swakopmund on the mighty Atlantic Ocean.

On this drive, you will pass the famous Spitzkoppe area, as well as the Erongo mountain ranges. On 4 of August 1892 the crew of gunboat called ”Hyena” erected two beacons to mark the landing site which symbolized the laying of the foundation stone of Swakopmund.

You’ll arrive in time for a little walk around the town to acquaint yourselves with, and book a few activities that you might want to enjoy, i.e. sandboarding, skydiving, paragliding, scenic flights and much more, after which you can enjoy a fine seafood dinner overlooking the ocean.

You start today’s journey with a drive south-west to the Namib Naukluft Park, one of the most scenic landscapes in Namibia. Namib-Naukluft National Park, which is one of the largest conservation areas in Africa and home to a variety of desert-adapted wildlife such as oryx, springbok, and zebra. In 1979, the Naukluft Mountain Zebra Park was included such that the Naukluft Mountains now formed part of the protected area. It previously comprised 14 commercial farms that were bought by government to protect the Hartmann mountain zebra.

On route to the Sesriem area, which is the gateway to the mighty dunes of Sossusvlei, you will pass Kuiseb and Gaub mountain passes, where you also have time for brief stops to take more of Namibia’s beauty in.

Solitaire is a great stopover for a lunchtime snack and houses one of the most famous bakeries in the country, which is situated in the heart of the Namib Desert. You will arrive in the late afternoon at your lodge, and so you will have a chance to recover from the long drive before enjoying a lovely dinner in the Namib Desert.

This morning, you should head into the Sossusvlei National Park quite early and drive into this great sand sea.

You’ll can enjoy a short but pleasant journey to discover the famous Deadvlei and Sossusvlei areas, but before you get there, you may want to stop at dune 45 where you will have a chance to climb this high dune. You will walk amongst the greatest dunes and photograph this captivating landscape. You may also decide to climb one of the World’s highest climbable dunes, the ‘Big Daddy’.

Upon your return from the dunes, you should consider visiting the Sesriem canyon, another amazing geological feature in the area before your relaxed afternoon at the lodge before a wonderful dinner.

Today you’ve come to the end of your safari and head back to the capital city Windhoek via a few small settlements in the southern part, and the town of Rehoboth.

You can stop in Klein-Aub for a unique coffee tasting experience, before transiting to Windhoek, as you hope for an afternoon arrival.
