Itinerary Details
We start our trip between 08:30 and 09:00 south-west to the iconic Namib Desert, known to be the world’s oldest desert and an area with one of the most picturesque landscapes in Namibia. We pass through the scenic mountain ranges of Auas and Khomas Hochland on our journey into the desert, and head down from Namibia’s central plateau. We will pass through the breathtaking Spreetshoogte peak pass on route to our final destination of Sesriem.
Coming out of the mountains, we reach the vast open plains open plains until we reach the tiny town of Solitaire for tea and some dessert. Here, we can visit the famous McGregor’s bakery for something sweet.
We plan to arrive at our lodge in the late afternoon to unwind and relax by the poolside, before a proper introduction to this area by your guide as you watch the beautiful sunset before dinner. We will retire to bed early this evening in order to prepare for a pre-dawn start the following day.
We will enjoy a lovely but early breakfast, before heading out to the famous sand dunes of Sossusvlei, famed for both their size and age.
We drive out to our final destinations, areas known as Sossusvlei and Deadvlei, which is a white dry clay pan, our cameras will naturally take center stage as this landscape is one of the most photographed spaces in Namibia. The views of the different dune formations are quite spectacular coupled with the intriguing camel thorn trees, the salsola and other desert flora.
As the desert starts to warm up, we will head to our lodge for some lunch, before heading to the Sesriem canyon in the afternoon for yet another interesting geology tutorial. A long day will come to an end with another lovely dinner, as we enjoy our final night in the desert.
Our drive takes us back to the central plateau of Namibia, and an increase in height above sea level.Driving through the stunning Namib Naukluft mountains, we come to the village of Klein-Aub in the Rehoboth constituency for an exceptional coffee tasting experience. We will transit via the town of Rehoboth and take a brief break there before finally arriving in Windhoek in the late afternoon.
